What To Pack And Keeping It Simple

Remember, this is a vacation. Keeping it simple is less stress in preparing for the trip. I hope these few tips will help.

1. Security and Keeping Details Safe

If you are doing International travel, scan your passport, passport photos and paper tickets. Store this in your web based email account that you can access from anywhere.

You can also store the details of your emergency telephone numbers in your web based email account so you know who to contact if your credit card or ATM card is lost or stolen.

2. Split up your valuables

Split up your bank cards, cash, travellers’ cheques and credit cards as much as possible in different pockets, your bags and wallet when packing.

3. Clothes

Pack only what you know you will use and if you are travelling for more than three weeks, plan to wash on the road. Keep in mind that jeans take up a lot of space and if you have to launder them, they take along time to dry. Lighter cotton pants are much easier to care for. Choose fabrics that breathe, don’t show dirt, don’t wrinkle, and are easy to wash and dry.

4. Roll Technique

Somehow it seems that bags will hold more if the clothes are rolled rather than folded. Also if you roll in tissue paper, the clothes will get less wrinkled. Jackets and such can still be folded.

5. Plastic Bags

It is always handy to have a few plastic bags around certain items, especially toiletries. Not only does it hold in any leaks, the bags can also come in useful to keep dirty clothes in.

6. Dividing Your Personals

If you are using a suitcase with no dividers, a piece of cardboard makes an excellent divider and helps keep your clothes organized and neat as you are able to lay them out flat on the cardboard.

7. Shoes

Your shoes will fit well into corners of the suitcase. Try to know what you will want to wear for each outing and pack accordingly. You can put them into airtight plastic bags to make sure everything stays clean.

8. Carry-On

If you have any medication or important papers in your carry-on bag. Especially on long flights with multiple stopovers. You don’t want to end up stuck without medication, or your important papers even if it is just for a few days or even hours.

9. Minimize on toiletries

With the tighter regulations of taking liquids on a flight, be sure to check and see what you can actually take on board. Take only half a tube of toothpaste rolled up tight, store shampoo in small containers, only take half a roll of toilet paper and crush it so the middle is folded. (You never know when you’ll need it.)

10. Carrying a lot of luggage?

While carrying a lot of luggage is not recommended, sometimes it is necessary in the case of relocating and so on. Remember there is an extra fee for more than one bag. Check with your local airlines so you don’t have a surprise when you check your bags.

One last thought, When you have your clothes laid out on your bed at home, do a final check. Think about your activites you have planned. Ask yourself questions like ‘What will I wear to a nice restaurant? What will I wear when going from my hotel room through the lobby to the swimming pool? What will I wear for dinner at the Captain’s table?

You get the idea. Make any changes now, then get packing! And most of all have a great trip!  I'll see you on the beaches of the world.
